Mother bear and four cubs - Cougar - I have just been talking to the Conservation Officer in 100 Mile and he thought I should contact you so you can spread the word - yesterday evening we had a mother bear and four (yes, four) cubs on our property. We are on Shertenlib Road overlooking Bridge Creek, close to Roe Lake. I tried to take some photos but it was getting dark and I couldn't get all four cubs and mother in one shot - they were up two separate trees and I didn't want to get too close. We watched them for a while and then they took off, heading north. The cubs were small enough to not be seen in the long grass. The mother is in good condition. The Conservation Officer said he would try and keep tabs on her because of all the campers and holiday makers around at this time of the year (i.e. the garbage issue!!). Since she has so many cubs she might also be extremely protective of them. Best regards, Linda Kenney The Conservation Officer was in the 108 this AM - Gloinzzun Drive looking for a reported cougar. Just to let you know. Len Doucette |
