Temperature in Spences Bridge this morning was at a chilly -25. It reminded me of many cold hikes I made while hurrying to school in Ohio.
Meadowlarks in Spences Bridge

I heard and saw a meadowlark yesterday at the Nicola near Spences Bridge. This really makes it feel like spring.
Unfortunately, living in Kamloops right now from Monday to Friday, I don't get to keep an eye on things like I used to, so will probably miss the first swallows when they come to town. If anybody from Spences Bridge is a regular reader, please keep an eye out for them and let me know. I've seen them as early as March 14th in the past, although the earliest birds are usually just visitors, passing up-river on their way to their nesting sites further north. Our resident birds don't usually seem to show up until early April.
Canadacowboy .... that was a great picture of the Aurora Borealis. Unfortunately I slept through it.

We were +4 this morning at 6:00 am, was anyone else in the Bridge Lake area above 0 this morning? Great to see spring on it's way, (except for those you love sledding) Karen
First Signs of Spring

We're starting to see the first signs of spring coming to Spences Bridge. I had a huge bug go splay on my winshield the other day. Hiltop Gardens are busy pruning their fruit- trees. George Billy says he's seen robins as much as ten days ago and there's all kinds of birdsong about on a warm afternoon. On Friday, runoff from Pimainus Creek and the Nicola River had the Thomson looking pretty muddy and while there's been no breakup yet on the Nicola, the water is flowing on top of the ice in many places.
We really got to see the value of the Spences Bridge webcam on Friday. If you put it on "movie mode", you could see that Spences Bridge was sunny but that there were all kinds of ominous looking clouds swirling around down towards Lytton. Sure enough, when travelling to the coast at about 2pm, Mavourneen left town with sunglasses on but hit the rain by Lytton and it rained heavily all the way through the canyon. That's why we love Spences Bridge so much.

A quick note to say thanks to JK for doing all that he is doing. Being a coaster it is always interesting to find out what is happening in the Cariboo. Your forecasts are forever welcome in my emails inbox. See one and all next spring break up to mid October. Can't wait for the farmers market for the best jerky. Ron Spence
